I’ve been shopping around for a good music program,
one that makes making music from samples easy, well this program may not be useful for that but it is still pretty impressive from the demos that come with it. This video is just a sampling of the demos that show off it’s capabilities. The program is more like a formal version of Buzz Tools, for broader use.
The full fledged program costs 200 dollars, but there is a minimal version for 50 dollars that seems to have most of the features minus some special features that may be missed in a professional environment.
Anyhow, the amazing thing is of course, this is a Windows program running on Wine in Ubuntu 8.10. If you lack a good music program in Linux and don’t want to bother learning Jack and connecting up programs like Ardour or Rose Garden and have access to VST plugins, then you can use this program in Wine.

Ubuntu Studio..
See rosegarden and ardour with jack.. My more recent videos will show you what I’ve done with them.. LMMS is nice if you are into techno, but it and fl studio probably suck for real music production. I’d suggest using jack and ardour, with stuff like jack rack and rosegarden, and ZynAddSubFx.. See my more recent videos..

¿Viste SpiralSynthModular?

Open source is …
Open source is proof that price doesn’t reflect value, and buying the most pricey software doesn’t ure quality, it just makes one look like a fool. And it is for this reason the software companies sell software for a high price, also reflects how they value the customer, and a reason not to pay for it, or even use it.
If people are …
If people are willing to pirate your software, it means two things “your software is too costly” but “it has great value”.. So lowering the price should either do two things “reduce piracy” or “win you more customers who are not going to go to the trouble of looking around to pirate your application”.
If people don’t even pirate your application, or won’t even use it once they get it.. If people don’t demo it on youtube.. That’s a sign of the cheapness of your software. Not the price.
But then they think …
But then they think “if we do that people will think of our product as cheap”.. Cheapness isn’t the price of the software, its the quality of the product, which won’t get bought even if it had a lower price.
If you sold it for less, you’d get more users, and make many times over what you are now. Especially if you design your applications to run on all platforms.
To those people that pirate applications, you are worthy of getting malware, that’s really dumb.
How do you make …
How do you make your applications run on all platforms? Well design for Wine, not windows, wine is a subset of the functionality of windows, so if you design for wine, you will get windows, linux and MacOSX as well.. It’s a no brainer. You may realize you have a market where you’d expect to find none.
Sales people and …
Sales people and biz heads alike think the product is immaterial, they pride themselves is selling “UNITS” of product that if they lost their jobs and went somewhere else they’d measure their skills in a resume to a new employer as the amount of units they sold.. When a sales person thinks of your product as “units” thats when you need to fire them, or avoid ever hiring them. Because they really don’t care about your product either.
OR, stop trying to …
OR, stop trying to sell people the costly $400 version.. BTW, fire the sales people who give that as the only response, they aren’t doing you any good, Cakewalk.
BTW Sonar 7 goes …
BTW Sonar 7 goes for about 140 dollars on ebay, if you have proof of enrolement in a university.. Another sign of a company you don’t want to deal with, this reminds me so much of Alias/Wavefront.. Costly educational discount versions.. Now onder people pirate their applications. The educational discount versions usually come with the stipulation that you don’t use the package for commercial work, but that’s just to protect their high-paying customers psychy. Clue sell the software for $100.
I was stupid enough …
I was stupid enough to ask a cakewalk sales person what version of cakewalk I could do stuff similar to that thing I did with Cakewalk 6, and they refered me to Sonar 8 Pro, which is about 400 dollars.. Because it has advanced voice processing capabilities.. None of which I used in Cakewalk 6. Dumbass Greedy s.. So that’s why I’m not looking at Cakewalk for a solution, you can get a taste of how a business treats its customers by how it treats its potential customers.
yeah, I am not …
yeah, I am not really very good at using sound stuff much anymore, it holds a little interest for me.. I find mroe fun playing around with a midi keyboard than using modern sequencer software. I used programs like Deliuxe Music Construction Kit on the Amigas (a lot) and Instamusic.. That’s how long ago.. I played around with Cakewalk 6 once and created a song that can be found on my bl3nder website under “experimental music”. That’s what I want to be able to do now, why I’m looking around.
